Equipment Needed
- Large cast iron skillet
- Stand mixer with dough hook (optional)
- 2 large mixing bowls
- Plastic wrap
- Whisk
- Brush (food safe)
- Small bowl
Ingredients
- 158g warm water
- 2 1⁄2 active yeast
- 1 1⁄2 tbsp honey
- 360g all purpose flour
- 62g olive oil
- 70g plain yogurt / greek yogurt
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 6 tbsp unsalted melted butter
- 3 minced garlic cloves
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
Preparation
Step 1
Place yeast, honey in a bowl of warm water and cover with plastic wrap for 10 minutes. In a separate bowl (or stand mixer bowl), add flour, olive oil, salt, garlic powder and onion powder and mix ingredients using dough hook on low or a whisk for 1 minute.
Step 2
Slowly add risen yeast, yogurt and olive to bowl with dry mixture and knead using dough hook or hands for 8-10 minutes. Once dough forms, transfer to a large bowl greased with olive oil and cover with plastic wrap and set aside for 90 minutes.
Step 3
Once dough has doubled in size, remove plastic wrap from bowl. Use your knuckles and gently press down into dough to deflate air pockets. Divide dough into 8-10 balls.
Step 4
Melt unsalted butter in a heat proof bowl. Place minced garlic, chopped cilantro and pinch of salt into bowl of melted butter, mix until combined and set aside.
Step 5
Heat cast iron skillet on medium high. On a flat surface, pour some olive oil and place a ball of dough onto surface. Use finger tips to spread out ball of dough, once dough is flat place it on hot skillet and cook each side for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Repeat process with remaining dough balls.
Step 6
Brush each piece of naan with garlic cilantro butter. Serve naan warm with your favorite curry and enjoy!
